Here in the Tepidarium, one of our slaves will come over and cover you with a variety of oils. Romans use oils instead of soap to loosen dirt on their bodies. Once that is done, a strigil is then used to scrape of the oils and dirt. This is basically a curved strip of metal.
The slaves here can also perform depilation for you. This is plucking out your body hairs. Hairless bodies were fashionable throughout the Empire. Having a massage here is also an option, though probably the less painful one!
The water here is heated by a system of hypocausts, which I will go into more detail about in the Caldarium.
